Sands RV Resort asks you to Come Hike with Us!

Explore the beauty of Southern California with Sands RV Resort’s friendly hiking groups! Excursions include Joshua Tree National Park, Mecca Painted Canyon, Anza Borrego, natural palm oases, and a number of other locations that will introduce you to the awe-inspiring rock formations and soaring mountain peaks of the high desert.

 

Seasoned guide Dennis Godfrey from Cowley, Wyoming has been leading hikes in the area for decades and is happy to share his vast knowledge of the local geology, wildlife, and history. Dennis’ Monday morning hikes are fairly leisurely, with a difficulty level of easy to moderate. In addition to hikes, he also leads driving tours and monthly campouts. After each hike Dennis writes a synopsis of the event, including photos and a map, and personally delivers them to all participants.

 

Roger Peters from Little Suamico, Wisconsin is also an experienced leader and has spent the past 12 winters at Sands RV Resort, hiking the surrounding areas with his wife Ginny. Roger likes to guide slightly longer, more strenuous hikes on Thursday mornings.

 

All hikes vary in difficulty and length, generally between 2 to 7 miles, so you’ll be sure to find one that matches your ability and interest.

 

The hiking season runs from November through March, when the temperatures are most comfortable for outdoor activities. Because of their popularity, hikers are advised to reserve a spot in advance. Sign-up sheets indicate date, location, time, length, elevation change, degree of difficulty, and what items to bring. Participants carpool and pay the driver mileage, other than that all hikes are free of charge.

 

A liability waiver must be read and signed by each hiker before leaving to indemnify Sands RV Resort, hike leaders, drivers, and fellow hikers from liability. We are cautious and understand the risks of hiking specific to the desert and mountains, some of which are: excessive heat or cold, snakes, insects, fire, ants, rocks and cliffs. Participants join us at their own risk.
